Breaking! Shocking Undercover Investigation Inside Harris Beef Slaughterhouse That Supplies Meat To Costco

Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) investigators recently obtained graphic hidden-camera footage that was taken inside Harris Beef in Selma, California. The shocking video reveals how cows are systematically restrained and killed with a slice to the throat while fully conscious. Workers then administer a bolt gun shot to the forehead to incapacitate the animals before the butchery process begins.

Harris Beef is the meat processing plant for the infamous Harris Ranch, the largest feedlot on the west coast, which is a site, and particularly a smell, etched into the memory of millions of travelers on California’s Interstate 5. Notably, it’s also a beef supplier to the big box titan Costco, which was also criticized in light of a grizzly exposé last month, which revealed the conditions behind the company’s signature $4.99 rotisserie chicken.

The first footage from inside the facility to be released publicly reveals practices which investigators claim fall well-short of the expectations of Californians, who overwhelmingly supported trailblazing animal welfare reforms in 2008 and 2018.

DxE footage also shows employees working in close proximity to one another, after a COVID-19 outbreak at the plant made headlines last year.

DxE alleges that the slaughter process depicted amounts to criminal animal cruelty, and it filed a complaint with local and state officials on Tuesday. DxE will be following up the investigation with related demonstrations across the state throughout the month of March.

“The public is shocked when they discover the truth behind their Costco beef,” Priya Sawhney, a DxE spokesperson, said in a statement. “We must hold our government officials accountable to the will of the people, and the people don’t support animal cruelty.”

On its website, in a section misleadingly named ‘Animal Welfare,’ Harris Ranch Beef boasts that it is one of the most advanced plants in the nation, reveling in sharing the fact that following a recent expansion, it now is able to increase processing capacity to between 1,050 and 1,150 head of cattle per day in a single shift.

How? By unnecessarily and brutally slitting even more throats of innocent cows while they are restrained, fearing for their lives, and still conscious? This is unfathomable, appalling, and nothing to be proud of. This must end!

Call To Action! Toronto Slaughterhouse Ordered To Permanently Close In 2019 Due To E-Coli Contamination But Reopens Under New Management

After Toronto’s most infamous slaughterhouse, Ryding Regency Meat Packers, was ordered to permanently close in 2019 due to e-coli contamination, they shockingly reopened yesterday under new management.

The slaughterhouse, now named Tru Harvest Meats, opened their doors once again at the same location to kill 83,200 cows and baby calves per year. Sadly, the majority of the mother cows are pregnant at the time of slaughter.

Activists from Toronto Pig Save and Toronto Cow Save held joint actions yesterday outside the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) offices in Toronto at midday, and held a cow vigil outside Tru Harvest Meats from 1:30pm to 3pm to protest this egregious atrocity and demand the license for Tru Harvest be withdrawn.

“We need to stop reopening this or any other slaughterhouse in Toronto. The previous slaughterhouse was shut down for E-Coli contaminated cow flesh and for lying to the Canadian food inspectors with false or misleading test results,” Anita Krajnc, Founder of Toronto Pig Save told WAN.

“This new Tru Harvest Meats slaughterhouse, like its predecessor, is killing mainly pregnant dairy cows and baby calfs. Diary is also killing the climate and harming people’s health. The Canadian governments new Food Guide took dairy off the menu, so it should be living up to expectations and not issuing new federal slaughterhouse licences,” said Krajnc.

“Slaughterhouses across Canada have been the site of many of the country’s worst COVID-19 outbreaks, and it’s indefensible that the provincial and federal governments would be allowing this business to re-open,” said Jenny McQueen, an activist with Toronto Pig Save.

“Dairy is a leading cause of environmental degradation, as well as being directly linked to negative health outcomes. We’re calling on the federal government to cease subsidies that are going towards propping up a collapsing cow milk industry that kills mother cows once their dairy production slows and ‘veal’ calves under 12 months old who have not been given the chance for life,” continued McQueen “We also call on the federal government and the CFIA to withdraw the license for Tru Harvest Meats and shut them down.”

Breaking! Help ‘Free From Harm’ Stop The Cruel Treatment Of 6-Week-Old Chicks At Aden Poultry Slaughterhouse In Chicago

Last week, Free from Harm documented the misery and neglect of six-week-old chicks at Aden Poultry Slaughterhouse in Chicago. The Founder of Free from Harm, Robert Grillo, witnessed the harrowing situation first-hand during an undercover investigation when the innocent chicks were delivered.

“The truckers worked fast, slamming the crates of birds down onto the pavement, and without any regard for the welfare of the birds,” Grillo noted, further explaining that the young chickens were transported by a Middlebury truck into a detached, two-car garage, about 50ft. from the main facility. “The truckers stacked several crates of birds on top of one another, each crate packed tightly with approximately 50 or more birds.”

The heartbreaking investigation at the Chicago slaughterhouse also uncovered that the birds showed clear signs of suffering, some with splayed legs forced to squat in their own waste, while others flapped their wings continuously in a desperate attempt to be ambulatory. Still, according to Grillo, many of the chicks were responsive and peered meekly out at him as the putrid smell of waste hit him from more than 200 feet away.

The investigation documented that no members of the Aden Poultry Slaughterhouse staff were present during the delivery of the birds, who were “presumably housed in this garage overnight, which does not comply with food code rules.”

Breaking! ARM’s Latest Undercover Investigation Exposes Extreme Animal Cruelty At Mary’s Ranch, Matador Cabrera Slaughterhouse In South Florida

Today, Animal Recovery Mission (ARM) released findings from its latest undercover investigation, Operation Mary’s Ranch, Matadero Cabrera. Owned and operated by Rodolfo Cabrera for more than 43 years, Mary’s Ranch, Matadero Cabrera Slaughterhouse is known for its live animal markets where live animals, including goats, lambs, cows, chickens, and pigs, are sold to customers who wait while the poor animals are barbarically killed and butchered for their meat.

As explained in a press conference held this morning, an ARM undercover operative was hired as a meat processor at the South Florida-based slaughterhouse, which is the only USDA federal slaughter operation in the area.

USDA appointed inspectors and federal veterinarians are stationed on-site to reportedly oversee, mandate, and regulate food safety requirements, as well as the treatment of animals when the animals are sold and slaughtered for human consumption.

However, ARM’s investigation, which included the first unannounced inspection of the facility, unveiled felony violations involving animal abuse, torture, inhumane handling of animals, and selling of unadulterated meat, as well as incriminating evidence of the gross misconduct of the Humane Slaughter Act of the United States.

The evidence made it clear that Cabrera is a threat to both animal and public safety.

Some of the violations observed by ARM’s undercover investigator included, but are not limited to:

  • PROLONGED TORTURE – Untrained workers killed cows using captive bolt guns with improper techniques. Horrifically, ARM documented multiple occasions where seven to eight attempts were made before the animals were knocked down, which is a felony criminal act. Void of using any stunning methods, the animals were subsequently stabbed to death.

  • ANIMALS DROWNED ALIVE IN BOILING WATER – Pigs were not stunned in alignment with the USDA Humane Slaughter Act. Inadequate voltages were also used to electrocute the animals who were stabbed and thrown into vats of boiling water while alive and conscious.

  • CUSTOMERS PARTICIPATING IN THE KILLING PROCESS – ARM documented workers taking random customers onto the killing floors and handing them loaded bolt guns to partake in the killing process for non-religious reasons. The animals suffered immensely.

These serious violations and criminal acts occurred in the presence of USDA inspectors, veterinarians, and local law enforcement officers. No interception was ever witnessed by ARM.

“Crimes against these innocent animals have been happening for decades at this house of horrors, with the knowledge of USDA inspectors and law enforcement alike. It is shocking that it took a small charity to go undercover to bring to light the extreme violations occurring at the Mary’s Ranch, Matador Cabrera Slaughterhouse,” said ARM Founder, Richard “Kudo” Couto.

Breaking! A Plan By Strauss Meats To Build A Massive Slaughterhouse That Would Kill 500 Cows Per Day Has Been Rejected By The Common Council Of Franklin, Wisconsin

Last night, the voices of animal advocates were heard and plans by Strauss Meats to build a massive new slaughterhouse in Franklin, Wisconsin, were rejected. This is the same company that reportedly fired 29 workers who complained about unsafe working conditions after employees tested positive for COVID-19.

After what was described as “five hours of heated debate,” the Franklin Common Council voted 4-2 against issuing a special use permit to Strauss so that the company could expand into a more than 150,000 square foot facility where a minimum of 500 unwanted dairy calves and mother cows would be slaughtered each day.

“This is a David and Goliath kind of victory against huge corporate animal agriculture interests and the corrupt politicians who put profits over people,” Robert Grillo, Founder of Slaughter Free Chicago, stated in a post on the group’s Facebook page.

Launched in 2018 by Free from Harm, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping end animal exploitation through grassroots activism and public education, Slaughter Free Chicago is a campaign to end slaughter in the state that once promoted itself as the slaughter capital of the world.

The group, which is part of a larger Slaughter Free Cities campaign, works tirelessly to spread the message that slaughterhouses are “bad for everyone, including animals, workers, and communities,” as well as the planet.

As per a post by Free from Harm, staggering statistics from the Food and Environment Reporting Network indicate that as of October 16th, at least 45,588 meatpacking workers, 11,348 food processing workers, and 8,471 farmworkers have tested positive for COVID-19, and at least 215 meatpacking workers, 37 food processing workers, and 17 farmworkers have died from it.

“With meat processing plants now identified as COVID-19 hotspots around the globe, and numerous scientific reports calling industrial animal farming the single most risky behavior for future pandemics, the last thing we need is more killing factories,” the nonprofit noted. “It’s clear now more than ever: slaughterhouses do not belong in a post-COVID future. They belong in the dustbin of history.”
