Breaking! ARM’s Latest Undercover Investigation Exposes Extreme Animal Cruelty At Mary’s Ranch, Matador Cabrera Slaughterhouse In South Florida

Today, Animal Recovery Mission (ARM) released findings from its latest undercover investigation, Operation Mary’s Ranch, Matadero Cabrera. Owned and operated by Rodolfo Cabrera for more than 43 years, Mary’s Ranch, Matadero Cabrera Slaughterhouse is known for its live animal markets where live animals, including goats, lambs, cows, chickens, and pigs, are sold to customers who wait while the poor animals are barbarically killed and butchered for their meat.

As explained in a press conference held this morning, an ARM undercover operative was hired as a meat processor at the South Florida-based slaughterhouse, which is the only USDA federal slaughter operation in the area.

USDA appointed inspectors and federal veterinarians are stationed on-site to reportedly oversee, mandate, and regulate food safety requirements, as well as the treatment of animals when the animals are sold and slaughtered for human consumption.

However, ARM’s investigation, which included the first unannounced inspection of the facility, unveiled felony violations involving animal abuse, torture, inhumane handling of animals, and selling of unadulterated meat, as well as incriminating evidence of the gross misconduct of the Humane Slaughter Act of the United States.

The evidence made it clear that Cabrera is a threat to both animal and public safety.

Some of the violations observed by ARM’s undercover investigator included, but are not limited to:

  • PROLONGED TORTURE – Untrained workers killed cows using captive bolt guns with improper techniques. Horrifically, ARM documented multiple occasions where seven to eight attempts were made before the animals were knocked down, which is a felony criminal act. Void of using any stunning methods, the animals were subsequently stabbed to death.

  • ANIMALS DROWNED ALIVE IN BOILING WATER – Pigs were not stunned in alignment with the USDA Humane Slaughter Act. Inadequate voltages were also used to electrocute the animals who were stabbed and thrown into vats of boiling water while alive and conscious.

  • CUSTOMERS PARTICIPATING IN THE KILLING PROCESS – ARM documented workers taking random customers onto the killing floors and handing them loaded bolt guns to partake in the killing process for non-religious reasons. The animals suffered immensely.

These serious violations and criminal acts occurred in the presence of USDA inspectors, veterinarians, and local law enforcement officers. No interception was ever witnessed by ARM.

“Crimes against these innocent animals have been happening for decades at this house of horrors, with the knowledge of USDA inspectors and law enforcement alike. It is shocking that it took a small charity to go undercover to bring to light the extreme violations occurring at the Mary’s Ranch, Matador Cabrera Slaughterhouse,” said ARM Founder, Richard “Kudo” Couto.

Breaking! Undercover Investigation Exposes South African President’s Secret Ties To Trophy Hunting, Including A 50% Stake In Tsala Hunting Safaris

PETA has uncovered South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s hidden connections to, and investments in, the trophy hunting industry. The revelations came after the group released video footage of an American tourist who ineptly shot and killed a young elephant on a nature reserve adjacent to Kruger National Park.

PETA’s recordings of Ramaphosa’s managers reveal that he is quietly developing and expanding a trophy hunting property called Diepdrift and stocking it with animals from his personal wildlife-breeding operation, Phala Phala. He also owns a 50% stake in Tsala Hunting Safaris.

Two hunters pose with a leopard they just killed. Animals like these aren’t available for hunting at Diepdrift, which is why Tsala Hunting Safaris partners with other outfitters to provide them. As long as the hunts are brokered by Tsala, as this one was, the president of South Africa still gets a cut.

The group recorded conversations in which Ramaphosa’s staff members admit that he shares equally in the profits from all hunts conducted through Tsala and spoke of the importance of concealing his involvement.

One said, “We try to keep the president’s name actually out of the hunting thing. So [Ramaphosa] wants to spare himself this, how can I say, bad publicity and all of that. So we got to do it under a different name brand, where none of my name or his name are connected to it.”

This lion hunt was brokered by Tsala Hunting Safaris

“President Ramaphosa is lining his pockets through the cold-blooded murder of gentle, curious elephants and other wildlife, who deserve protection, not exploitation,” said the President of PETA, Ingrid Newkirk, in an email sent to WAN. “The majority of South Africans will not applaud their president for auctioning off the country’s wildlife to overseas trophy hunters for personal profit.”

PETA’s video shows an elephant peacefully wandering out of the bush as an American trophy hunter and his guides lie in wait. The American then shoots the elephant in the head and watches as he falls to his knees. The suffering animal looks at the shooting party as the man, who paid $30,000 to kill him, is given instructions from his guides on how to shoot more accurately. He finally shoots him four more times, causing him to rumble in distress and to warn others.

The shooter later paid nearly $20,000 to have the elephant’s body parts preserved for shipment to the United States, prompting PETA to renew its call for UPS to enact a ban on transporting wildlife trophies. More than 40 airlines have banned the transport of wildlife trophies since 2015. UPS has already banned the transport of shark fins, certain live animals, and ivory, but it is still enabling the trophy hunting industry.

Breaking! Born Free USA Exposes Dire Situation Within The Horrific Fur Farming Industry In The United States

Today, Born Free USA published a new report on the fur farming industry in the United States. The new research titled Silent Suffering in Our Own Backyard: Fur Farming in the United States highlights serious failings in animal welfare regulations, oversight, and a negligent disregard for public health in light of the recent outbreak of COVID-19 in multiple fur farms in Utah, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

As per the report, despite many countries around the world banning the cruel practice of farming animals for the sole purpose of skinning them to use their pelts for clothing, the U.S. has fallen behind and has taken no progressive steps to protect animals from this miserable fate in more than a decade. Some states were found to have no regulations at all to provide even minimum protection for animals in fur farms, while others could not even tell Born Free researchers which of their departments of state had responsibility for fur farm oversight and governance.

“In addition to the significant animal suffering involved in fur farming, the fact that we are now seeing concrete evidence of fur farms as a source of COVID-19 during the ongoing global pandemic makes the call to end this cruel industry in the United States all the more urgent,” Angela Grimes, CEO of Born Free USA, said in a statement. There is absolutely no excuse to have fur in our closets in 2020, and the risk to animal welfare and public health absolutely cannot be justified for such a frivolous purpose as a fashion fad.”

Wearing animal fur as clothing has been steadily falling out of fashion for decades. As members of the public learned about the cruel conditions faced by animals on fur farms, they have turned their back on the practice in droves. A poll released in September 2020 confirmed that only one-in-four U.S. citizens are in favor of killing animals for their fur.

Concerns over cruelty and decreasing demand has resulted in many major fashion houses, including: Armani, Gucci, Michael Kors, Prada Group, and Versace implementing fur-free policies. They join designers such as: Diane von Furstenberg, Stella McCartney, and Vivienne Westwood, who are pioneering fur-free high fashion trends. Stores such as: H&M, Macy’s Inc., and Zara have also committed to going fur-free, while manufacturers such as Ecopel have filled the gap in the market left by the failing fur industry by creating high quality and sustainable fur substitutes.

Despite the industry downturn, fur farms still exist and millions of animals are still raised and killed globally; their lifeless bodies discarded and their skins used to make unnecessary coats, hats, or even trinkets. More than 85% of fur used in fashion is derived from animals in factory fur farms. Wisconsin is the leading mink producing state, generating more than one million pelts annually, followed by: Utah, Idaho, Oregon, and Minnesota.

In 2018, there were an estimated 245 mink farms in 22 states producing 3.1 million animal pelts valued at $82.6 million dollars. These numbers only include mink farms; no publicly available records are kept for other species. As such, these figures do not include farms that breed animals like fox, bobcat, rabbit, and chinchilla, Therefore, the total number of lives taken far exceeds these figures.

Born Free is calling for an end to fur farming in the United States via the implementation of state-level bans on the practice. In the short-term, transparency regarding the location of existing farms and number of animals held by them is being demanded in the interests of animal welfare and public health.
